Full day event. Two Renowned trainers. Two topics covered!

Adrian Underhill will run his sessions on:

New approaches to mistakes: Upgrades, corrections and teachable moments.

This workshop presents and practices seven powerful yet lesser known approaches to mistakes and correction. We will look at the difference between correction and the new concept of upgrade, and at the alternative strategies made available through the ccncept of teachable moments. These are all simple to use, playful and engaging by nature, apply to all levels, and, strangely, are not usually part of our current teacher training.

Chaz Pugliese will run his sessions on:

Milk it! Practical ideas for designing generative exercises and for thinking outside the coursebook.

Teachers are very busy people: dozens of lessons to plan, stacks of essays to grade, mountains of admin tasks that are as time-sapping as they are tedious. Because they’re strapped for time, many teachers tend to rely too heavily on the coursebook they use. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing per se, but often not exactly what’s needed to get a class of teen-agers going.
In this eminently practical session, we will look at a few strategies teachers can use to ‘milk’ an exercise from the coursebook and make it last a little longer, adding new stages to get more mileage, involving the students even more. (We will focus in particular on listening/reading comprehension work).
